Losing an SEO Contest

Are you thinking about entering an SEO contest? I want to create a simple A-Z guide into losing an seo contest. The best way to guide you through the process is of course with an example.

So, I signed up for an SEO contest. Just follow my steps.

A: Choose a contest that is up to your capabilities. When you are an SEO newbie, it isn’t ridiculous to enter a contest that has hundreds of pro’s all fighting over USD 7,500 prize money.

B: Your URL. It’s really not necessary to have the keywords that you are trying to rank for in your URL. You can choose anything that is just easy to remember for yourself. http://www.lose-money-online.com/losing-an-seo-contest/ will do.

C: Do not create any content on the topic. Nobody is interested. Especially when the keywords are so non descriptive that you cannot come up with anything to write about, just fill a page with nonsense. (This page is a good example.)

D: Forget about adding the keywords once in h1

E: or in the description tag,

F: or the title,

G: or bold,

H: or italic,

I: or anywhere on the page. Google’s algorithm is now so smart that it simply knows what you are trying to say.

J: Now, add a few animated gifs, to make the whole look nice.

K: So, you got your page ready. Time to put it online. Try to use some popular hosting; MySpace, Blogspot or whatever you can find. Make it an EBay listing, if you can!!

L: Now, here comes a little secret: Submit the page to Google!! My very first teacher in SEO tought me that you should submit your page to Google every single day. The more you submit, the better your rankings. Write in the comment box: “please Mr. Page, make me #1″. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

M: Send an email to larry.page@gmail.com to make sure that your submission has come through alright and is being processed.

N: Keep Google happy and use Adsense. Adsense helps your rankings considerably.

O: Alright then. The best part of SEO coming up; Sit back and wait!

P: Don’t get nervous. It will happen. Just be patient.

Q: Can’t stand the waiting any longer. Alright. Breath in. Now, it’s time to start checking your logs. See anything happening yet? No?

R: Perhaps Google made a mistake! Happens all the time. Go back and submit the URL a few more times to Google.

S: Keep checking your stats. Analyze all the information that you get. Put it in graphs. Add up the figures. Calculate averages. Don’t miss a single day of new statistics. Be right on top of it!

T: Don’t forget. When you are a webmaster, you have to learn to be patient. Just wait and see.

U: Play the waiting game!

V: Time to go back to the original contest and read all the rules before time is running out.

W:  Do not forget to add any text/logo/link to the page to verify that you are a participant of the contest:

X: See anything happening now?

Y: All done! Wait for the results of the contest.

Z: Collect your prize. Unfortunately, there usually aren’t any prizes for originality when it comes to SEO contests…

Good luck to you all!
